This is my 3rd great grandmother.

This was in a bit of a mystery since I had an entirely different name for her just a few months ago.  I originally had her name as just Anna Christina, it wasn't until I came across her son Erick Andrew Carlson's death information on the Illinois, Death, and Stillbirths Index that listed his mother's name as Augistine Haldga.

So Augistine is a brick wall in my search.  I have that she was born in Finland but I don't know when and I do not know her parents names.  What I do know is that she married Carl Eric Gullens.  They had five children:

Their children would take the last name Carlson upon their arrivals in the US.

Basil has one of those names that I have seen have several variations of spelling.  I use the spelling used on his head stone.  Some other variations are Bazzil, Bazil, Bazzel.  Basil primarily lived in Arkansas throughout his life but according to the 1920 census he and Margaret had moved to Appleglen, Arizona.  Basil passed on September 10, 1926 at age 77.  Basil is buried at Wann Cemetery in Beaty, Arizona.

Mitchell is my 2nd great grandfather.

Unfortunately I know very little about Mitchell Sanders.  Mitchell is a major brick wall in my family research.  What I do know is that Mitchell married Parthenia Adaline Mitchell (1879-1966)  and they had three children:
I have Mitchell passing away sometime before 1920.

52 Ancestors Challenge Week #24 - Herman Fredrec Nachtigall

Herman is my 3rd great grandfather

Herman Fredrec Nachtigall was born in Neukirchen Kreis Osterberg, Germany on September 30, 1866 to August F. (1833-1890) and Charlotte Sophia Elizabeth Kober (1839-1927).  Herman was the third child born to the couple:
There are discrepancies in the year Herman arrived in the states.  According to the 1900 and 1910 census, Herman arrived in 1874 but the 1910 lists 1875 and the 1930's census has 1880.  Herman married Clara Wilhelmina Quist (1873-1926) on October 7, 1896 in Sycamore, Illinois.  Herman and Charlotte had six children:

52 Ancestors Challenge Week #23 - Parthenia Adaline Mitchell

Addie is my 2nd great grandmother

Parthenia went by the shortened version of her middle name, Addie.  Addie was born on August 13, 1879 in Arkansas to Daniel Webster Mitchell (1828-1899) and Parthena Adaline Walker (1838-1893).  Addie was the youngest child of 10:
  • Marcus Lafayette (1857-1876)
  • Mary Columbia (1869-1919)
  • George C. (1861-1899)

  • Warren (1874-1879)
  • Daniel Webster (1877-1883)
According to the 1880's census, Addie was living in Big Creek, Arkansas and it would appear she lived in this area most of her life each census available through 1940 has her living in Big Creek.  Addie would marry Mitchell Sanders (?-1920) probably around 1900.  They had three children:
  • Fred L. (1902-?)

52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #21 - Ernest Ralph McNeal

Ernest is my 2nd great grandfather

Ernest Ralph McNeal was born on July 22, 1896 in Byron, Illinois to Charles Daniel McNeal (1858-1937) and Mary Lousia Alfred (1858-1941).  Ernest was the 12th of 13 children:
According to the 1900 census, Ernest and his family were living in Rockvale Township but by the 1910 census they were back living in Byron.  About 1915, Ernest married Oral Marie Hodges (1896-1980) and they would have three children:
Ernest was still living in Byron according to the 1920 census but the 1930's census has him living in Rockford, Illinois.  Ernest and Oral would divorce about 1938 and would both go on to marry other people.  Ernest married Alice Harriet McDaniel (1890-1976).  The only sign I have found of Ernest in the 1940's census has him and Alice living in Riverside, California which also notes they lived there in 1935.  If they did live out in California they were back in the Rockford area by 1942 when Ernest filled out his WWII draft card.  Ernest died in May of 1968 at the age of 71.

52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #20 - Mary Jane O'Rourke

Short and sweet this week as I don't know much about my 2nd great grandmother.

Mary Jane O'Rourke was born about 1870 in Wisconsin.  I do not know who her parents were so she is a dead end for me.  Mary Jane married John Nelen (1857-?) and they had at least two children:

  • George (1901-1985)
  • Alice Mabel (my great grandmother; 1905-1988).
The 1910, 1920 and 1930 census have her living in Spring Valley, Wisconsin.  I do not have an exact year of death but I am guessing Mary Jane passed during the 1930's as I have found no record of her in the 1940's census.
