52 Ancestors 2015 Week #11 - Johann Georg Gruen

Johann is my 5th great grandfather.

I haven't found much Irish in my direct family tree so in honor of Saint Patrick's Day I am picking a Gruen which would eventually evolve into the last name Greene.

Johann Georg was born on 25 Apr 1783 in Baumerlenbach, Oberohringen, Jagstkreis, Wuerttemberg (now Germany) to Georg Simon Gruen (1753-1825) and Maria Barbara Herldarth (1755-1822).  Johann had seven siblings:
  • Johann Friederick (1780-1780)
  • Catharina Dorthea (1781-1865)
  • Johan Abraham (1785-1794)
  • Christina Braven (1789-?)
  • Rosina Elizabeth (1791-1791)
  • Rosina Elizabeth (1794-1794)
  • Johan Simon (1797-1797)
Johann's parents really seem to like the name Johann as it is the name of all their sons though two did in infancy.  There are also two Rosina Elizabeth's, are they one in the same or they used the name again after the death of their first Rosina.

Johann married Christiana Elizabeth Arnold (?-1819) on 10 Dec 1805 in Evangelish, Baumerlenbach, Oberohringen, Jagstkreis, Wuerttemberg.  They had eight children:

  • Christiana Elisabeth Dorothea (1806-1808)
  • Christina Dorothea (1808-1877)
  • Eva Elizabetha (1809-?)
  • Baby Girl (1810-1810)
  • John Georg (1811-?)
  • Fredrich Ludwig (1812-1820)
  • Edward Alex (1814-1815)
  • Georg Michael (1818-?)
After Christiana died, Johann remarried Wilhelmina Jacobina Leiss (my 5th great grandmother; 1802-1885) on 13 Nov 1820 in Evangelish, Baumerlenbach, Oberohringen, Jagstkreis, Wuerttemberg.  They had seven children:

  • Elizabeth Dorothy
  • John George
  • Christina Carolina Jacobina (1821-1876)
  • Wilhelmina Rossina (1822-?)
  • John Jacob (my 4th great grandfather; 1826-1892)
  • Mary J. Clara (1839-1865)
  • Thomas George (1842-1865)
Mary is the first of Johann and Wilhelmina's children to be born in the US in 1839.   It doesn't look like all their children immigrated to the states with them as Christina died in Germany in 1876.

Johann died on 03 Mar 1867 at age 83 in Morgantown, Indiana.
