Jacob E. Keller was born on July 17, 1843 in Catawissa, Pennsylvania to Charles George Keller (1816-1878) and Catherine Miller (1811-1907). Jacob is the fifth of nine children:
- Elizabeth Sarah (1834-1911)
- Lucy Ann (1836-1873)
- Benjamin Franklin (1838-1863)
- Sarah (1839-1918)
- Phoebe Alice (1846-1934)
- Caroline (1848-1922)
- Rebecca M. (1852-1919)
- Frances (1854-1935)
- James (1863-1929)
Jacob was in the military from August 29, 1864 to June 2, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. I would assume he saw battle during the civil war.
On July 4, 1868, Jacob married Mary Elizabeth Newcomer (1850-1895). They were married in Juda, Wisconsin. They had nine children:
- George Frank (1869-1925)
- Phoebe Alice (1870-1958)
- Charles A. (1872-1947)
- Peter (1875-1900)
- William Henry (1878-1954)
- Nellie Mae (1881-1962)
- Samuel Arthur (1884-1936)
- Katherine Viola (my 2nd great grandmother; 1887-1945)
- Clyde Eugene (1889-1968)
The federal census between 1870 and 1900 have Jacob and his family living in Spring Grove, Wisconsin. I also found Jacob and his family in the 1900 census living in Pennsylvania and the 1910 census also places him in Pennsylvania. By the 1930's census, Jacob is back in Wisconsin.
Jacob died on October 27, 1931 at age 88 of a heart attack. Jacob is buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Brodhead, Wisconsin.
