52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #3 - Josiah Converse Carrico

Josiah Converse Carrico is my 2nd great grandfather on my mother's side and was referred to as Jody or Joda by family and close friends but often signed his name as J.C.   Josiah was born on January 29, 1873 in Pottersville, Howell, Missouri to Basil Jordan Carrico and Margret Susan Riley, the second of six children.  At the age of 19, Josiah married Celestia Alabama Caldonia Reese (went by the name Donie) on December 18, 1892.  Josiah and Donie had seven children,
Josiah did many different labor jobs to provide for his family including making ax handles and washboards.  Josiah helped build the railroad as it was coming through Calico making $1.50.  In December of 1894, Josiah broke his leg and it never set properly and he was never able to work on it again.  Josiah passed way on July 2, 1957 in Calico Rock, Izard, Arkansas.

52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #2 - Katherine Viola Keller

For week two, I am choosing my 2nd great grandmother.  For years I only knew her first name was Kate.  A user at ancestry.com helped me discover her full name was Katherine Viola Keller.

Katherine Viola Keller was born on March 4, 1887 in Spring Grove, Wisconsin to Jacob E. Keller (1843-1931) and Mary Elizabeth Newcomer (1850-1895).  Katherine would of just been eight years old when her mother passed in 1895 and they were living in McLeod, Minnesota.  By 1900, Katherine and her family had moved back to Spring Grove, Wisconsin.   At the age of 17, Katherine married Walton Ward Greene on January 11, 1905.  They welcomed their first child Chester Walton Greene (my great grandfather) on December 26, 1905 (Chester passed in 1967).  Katherine and Walton had three other children Ora Belle (1908-1988), Georgia Mary (1922-2008) and a son that I have being born in 1923.  I wasn't positive if he was still living so I didn't want to include this name for privacy concerns.

Katherine passed away at age 58 on August 5, 1945 in Avon, Rock, Wisconsin.

52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #1 - Carl Eric Gullens

I am going to try this 52 Ancestor Challenge from Ancestry.com (http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2014/01/10/the-52-ancestors-challenge/).

My first ancestor I am profiling is Carl Eric Gullens, or his last name could possibly be spelled Gullans.
Carl would be my 3rd Great Paternal Grandfather.  He is a dead end relative for me.  I have very little information on him other than he was possibly born in Finland.   Here is the link to my Ancestry tree: Carl Eric Gullens

I had his wife's name as Anna Christine but his son, Erick's death index information listed his mother's name as Augistine Haldga.

I have them having six children, many of whom adopted the last name Carlson upon arrival in the US.

August Carlson
Edla Gullens (b. about 1864 in Finland)  Arrival in US about 1893.

Johanna Carlson (1866-1952)
Erick Andrew Carlson (b. 1873 in Finland d. February 15, 1924 in DeKalb, Illinois) this is my 2nd great paternal grandfather.  Eric married Lena Marie Hokans (b. October 9, 1971 in Overmark, Finland d. September 9, 1932 in Rockford, Illinois.)   Arrival in USA about 1895.
Lena Mathilda Carlson (b. November 14, 1877 in Oster Yttermakr, Narpes, Finland d. October 4, 1973 in Worcester, Massachusetts).  Married John Adrian Hannus (b. July 27, 1868 in Korsnäs, Lansi-Suomen Laani, Finland d. 1920 in Worcester, Massachusetts).  I have them having 11 total children.  Arrival in US about 1896/1897.
