52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #15 - Austin Rochester Carrico

Austin is my great grandfather.

Austin Rochester Carrico was born on March 17, 1908 in Wild Cherry, Arkansas to Josiah Converse Carrico and Celestia Alabama Caldonia Reese.  Austin was the sixth of seven children:
Austin lived in the Arkansas area through at least 1926 when he married Emo Stone (1908-?) in Izard County.  This marriage produced one child: Chester Lee (1927-1993), my mother believes that Austin and Emo divorced.

On July 26, 1930 Austin would be married to his second wife Tressie Jane Sanders (1901-1940) and living in Howell County, Missouri.  Austin and Tressie would have four children:
  • a son born in 1934 is still living
  • Joda Mace (1936-2011)
  • A. Dell (my grandfather, 1937-2004)
  • a daughter born in 1940 who is still living.
Tressie died just after giving birth to their fourth child.  According to the 1940's census, Austin was living in Arkansas and the highest level of school he competed was 7th grade.  Just about a year after Tressie's death, Austin married his third wife Lee Modene Lewis (1924-2000) and they would have two children who are both still living. According to a grave marker, Austin served in the Navy during World War II.  Austin died on February 15, 1979 at the age of 70.  Austin is buried at Pottersville Cemetery.
